A network in its simplest form consists of two computers using specialised cabling to enable communication between the two, allowing both machines to send and receive data.

This cabling is often refered to as Structured Cabling (built in to the structure of the building). To ensure this cabling meets specified standards, various test instruments are used to carry out a number of tests. These instruments could include wiremap testers, continuity testers or more advanced instruments, which combine these tests and also include others such as signal delay, length and crosstalk.

To comply with the certification standards as laid down by the TIA and ISO standards authorities, a more complex instrument has to be employed. This carries out a whole suite of tests to ensure certification can be achieved.

The SCT series are high-performance testers for certifying and evaluating copper and fiber cabling installations. The SCT series covers two models, the SCT1500 which allows testing and certification of copper ethernet up-to category 6/class E and the SCT2000 which allows testing and certification of copper ethernet to category 7/class F.

Both models also support testing and certification of single and multi mode fiber optic cable, with the optional adaptor, making the requirement for seperate instruments redundant. Additionally, the SCT2000 also supports testing of alien crosstalk, with the optional adaptor, for certification above category 6/class E.
